The aim of Pumping Times is to provide comprehensive information on expressing breast milk. It’s mainly targeted at mothers exclusively pumping for their babies but provides lots of information for those pumping occasionally as well. The reason I came up with this site is that I was exclusively pumping for my son and I was so lost and had so many questions but couldn’t find one place that had all the information I needed.
For one, I didn’t know that what I was doing was actually called “exclusively pumping”. I found that term later on. Like most women, I had planned on breastfeeding but had bought a small pump beforehand to gain some freedom from the breastfeeding and to have my husband feed our son. That was the original plan before all our attempts at breastfeeding failed and since I didn’t want to “loose” my milk, I kept pumping – feeding via bottle – feeding via breast. At some point I had to let go of the breastfeeding and concentrate on the pump only. At this point I found out – against the advice of most of the nurses and doctors at my hospital – that exclusively pumping can work. I kept getting more and more milk than my son actually needed. It was a very difficult time though especially that I had to use trail and error to see what works and what not – hence the reason for this site.
